To track the refund status of the Income Tax Refund, the Income Tax Department offers an online facility. Here' how to check ITR Refund Status for FY 2022-23 (AY 2023-24). July 31 is the deadline for the income tax return filing.
ITR Refund Status Online: If a taxpayer has paid tax beyond what they were required to pay, then after filing their Income Tax Return (ITR) they can claim refund for the extra amount paid in form of Income Tax Refund. To claim an Income Tax Refund or TDS refund, the income taxpayer must file Income Tax Return and declare their income, along with details such as deduction and tax paid to the Income Tax Department. To claim an Income Tax Return, online filing of ITR is a must.
To track the refund status of the Income Tax Refund, the Income Tax Department offers an online facility. The refund status can be viewed by the taxpayers after 10 days of filing ITR. There are two ways in which taxpayers can check their income tax refund status. They must make sure that they have their PAN Number and details of the Assessment year in order to check their income tax refund status.
Here is the process for how to check the Income Tax Refund Status online
Check Income Tax Refund Status Through E-Filing Website
- Go to the official e-Filing portal.
- Login to the portal with your User ID/ Aadhar/ PAN, password, Date of Birth, or Date of Incorporation.
- Enter the captcha code available on the screen.
- Go to the ‘My Account’ section.
- Click on the ‘Refund/ Demand Status’ option.
- The status of your refund will be displayed.
Check Income Tax Refund Status Through TIN NSDL
- Visit the official website of TIN NSDL Refund Status
- Enter your PAN Number, the assessment year, and the captcha.
- Click on Proceed.
- The status of your refund will be displayed.
Here are the 10 Refund statuses-
- No e-filing has been done for this assessment year: This means that your IT return was not filed at all.
- Under processing: This means that your refund status is not yet processed by the Income Tax Department. You can check the refund status after a month.
- Refund issued: This means that the refund status is sent to you by the Income Tax Department either by cheque or to your bank account.
- Processed with no demand no refund: This means that the refund you signed has been declined by the Income Tax Department as your calculations do not match their calculations.
- Refund failure: This means that your refund was not processed as the details provided by you were not correct.
- Case transferred to assessing officer: It means that the IT department needs clarification on the refund you applied for.
- Demand determined: It means that the IT department has found that you need to pay your unpaid taxes.
- Rectification processed refund determined: The IT Department has gone through the details, rectified the error, and sent the refund.
- Rectification processed demand determined: The IT Department has gone through your details, and they found that you owe them unpaid taxes.
- Rectification processed no demand no refund: Based on the rectification, IT Department has found that neither they owe you any amount nor you owe them anything.
