ITR filing deadline, how to get refund: A lot of taxpayers are rushing to meet the July 31, 2024, deadline for the Income Tax Return (ITR filing deadline). Filing ITR in time will help them avoid the Income Tax (I-T) department penalty. There are many taxpayers who have already filed it. Some of them filed it long ago. Among them, some are waiting for their income tax refund. You get a refund if you have paid tax in excess during the financial year you are filing your return for. There may be reasons why your refund is still stuck. Some of them are given here-
Do not forget to verify your ITR
When you are filing your ITR, is it a must that you verify it immediately.
Some taxpayers choose the option of verifying their ITR within 30 days.
If you forgot to verify your ITR, your refund will be stuck.
So, you can verify it and refund will likely come after some days.
I-T Department has rejected your ITR form
The I-T Department now checks ITRs through artificial intelligence.
The process of finding discrepancies is faster than before.
If the I-T department finds problems with your form, it can reject it.
If it has, you need to check its SMS and mail. You need to rectify those mistakes and refile them.
If your CA has filed it, then check
If you didn't have time to file ITR and get it done through your chartered accountant (CA), you need to check if they have verified your form. Sometimes, when they forget to verify it, the refund is stuck.
If you haven't validated your bank account
If you have forgotten to pre-validate your bank account, it can be quite a reason for not getting an ITR refund.
Sometimes, in your bank account record, there can be an error in your name, account number, IFSC code, or any other data.
The I-T Department detects such discrepancies and stops the refund.
How you can request an income tax refund
