Income tax returns filing: File your ITR without Form 16; here is how
Income tax returns (ITR) filing: In the case of non-availability of Form 16, a tax payee can use pay slips and Form 26AS to prepare and submit his/her tax return.
Income tax returns (ITR) filing: If you don't have Form 16 or could not get it from you company, don't worry, you can still file your Income tax returns. With salary paid and tax deducted data available online (on the income tax portal), now one can file tax returns without Form 16, which is a salary certificate issued by the employer.
In the case of non-availability of Form 16, a tax payee can use its pay slips and Form 26AS to prepare and submit his/her tax return.
Shilpi Agarwal, Partner, TASS Advisors LLP, said, "Form 26AS is available on income tax portal and you can view it using your login ID and password to access income tax e-filing portal."
"Once you download this form, you can find all the details of your tax deducted and deposited by the employer on salary payments/ other payments. You can also can compare the data with your payslips and compute its total taxable income/ claim allowable deductions/ and prepare the income tax return form," she added.
As the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has extended the Income tax returns filing last date from July 31, 2018 to August 31, 2018, giving a month's breather to all concerned, there is ample time use the information given here to complete the formalities of ITR.
