Repayment towards housing loan interest and principal are eligible for tax benefit under the Income Tax Act 1961. However, to claim tax benefit, salaried home loan customers are required to submit home loan interest certificate to their employer. Non-salaried customers do also require home loan interest certificate for computation of their total taxable income.

If you have borrowed from State Bank of India (SBI), the bank will have dispatched Home Loan Interest Certificates at the address recorded with them. If you have moved to another location, you must get it updated with your bank. However, if you desire to get another copy of interest certificate, you may get it through net banking using below steps:

>> Internet Banking - Home Loan borrowers who are having internet banking facility can view/download interest Certificate of their home loan accounts using State Bank of India. “Home Loan interest certificate” link is available under “e-services/certificate” tab. The certificate can be viewed online, printed or downloaded in pdf.

You can also get the certification using the SBI Samadhaan app. For that, a customer must have registered his/her email id with the bank.

>> Open the app, navigate to A/c related menu > Swipe the green button > Home Loan interest certificate option will get displayed > Enter home loan a/c no., passcode (which will be used for opening PDF file) > Tap on Home Loan interest certificate menu. Customer will receive the pdf file of the certificate in their email.

If you are not able to use any of the above options, you can also get the certificate by visiting your home branch.
