Income Tax Department: The Income Tax Return (ITR) filing season has already started. Taxpayers who are filing ITR must ensure to e-Verification of the income tax return. E-verification of an ITR is compulsory as this completes the return filing process and if it is not done within the stipulated time, an ITR is treated as invalid. Taxpayers can e-Verify ITR through the electronic verification code (EVC) option. One can log on to the e-filing portal, using an Aadhaar number to complete the process.

Step 1: Visit the e-Filing portal homepage and click e-Verify Return.

Step 2: On the e-Verify Return page, enter your PAN, select the Assessment Year, enter Acknowledgment Number of the ITR filed and Mobile Number available with you and click Continue.

Step 3: Enter the 6-digit Mobile OTP, received on the mobile number entered in Step 2.

Step 4: Click Submit.

Step 5: If you are e-Verifying the return after 120 / 30 days of filing, click Ok.
  Step 6: For submitting a condonation delay request, select the Reason of Delay from the dropdown and click Continue.

Income Tax Department: How to check income tax status  

Step 1: Visit the official website of Income Tax Department - www.incometax.gov.in in  

Step 2: Log in to your account. For this, you will need to provide your PAN/Aadhaar number as the user ID and password.  

Step 3: Choose the e-file option.

Step 4: Choose 'Income tax returns' from the e-file menu.  

Step 5: Choose 'See Field Returns.'  

Step 6: Go over the most recent ITR that was submitted.  

Step 7: Choose 'View Details' to view the status of the ITR file.
 
 

Income Tax Department: Steps to verify income tax returns using Demat account

Step 1: Log into the e-filing portal
Step 2: Pre-validate Demat account number
Step 3: Click on e-verify link, select the option to e-verify using demat account details and generate OTP
Step 4: EVC is received on the registered mobile number. 
Step 5: Enter EVC on the e-filing portal. Income tax returns are verified.
