How to check PF balance online? Here's a step-by-step guide

Provident Fund (PF) is a social security scheme for employees wherein those earning more than Rs 15,000 per month contribute a portion of their salary towards the fund as savings. It is very important for employees working in an organisation, to know about their provident fund balance. It has become much easier to check PF balance online now. As a member of the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), you are no more required to wait for your employer to share your PF statement, as you can check PF Balance through various modes.
One can check the PF balance anytime with the help of various modes like Umang App, EPFO portal, EPFO app, SMS, or by just giving a missed call.
Mode 1: Check PF Balance using SMS
In order to use the SMS facility, your UAN must be linked with KYC details. Also, the SMS must be sent from the mobile number registered on the Unified Portal.
Step 1: The only step is to send an SMS to 7738299899 from your registered mobile number and the message should include 'EPFOHO UAN'.
Mode 2: Check PF balance using Umang App
Step 1: The first step is to download and install the UMANG App from Play Store or iOS Store.
Step 2: After that find the EPFO option on the homepage of the app and select 'Employee Centric Services'.
Step 3: Now enter EPF Universal Account Number (UAN) when prompted. An OTP will be sent to the mobile registered with UAN.
Step 4: After entering the OTP, you will be shown all the details of your PF including balance.
Mode 3: Now check PF Balance using missed call facility
Step 1: The missed call number is 011-22901406, and in order to get info about PF balance, call the same number from the mobile number- activated with UAN on the Unified Portal. Also, the KYC should be completed with UAN to avail this service.
Step 2: After you call at this number, the phone will automatically disconnect (no cost of calling).
Step 3: An SMS will be sent to your mobile number, that will have details of your PF balance.
Mode 4: Check PF Balance on EPF Portal
Step 1: Go to the online portal www.epfindia.gov.in
Step 2: Now click on 'For Employees' under 'Our Services'
Step 3: After that click on 'Member Passbook' under 'Services'
Step 4: Now login with your UAN and Password.
Step 5: You will find Member IDs of all accounts linked with your UAN, once you are logged in. It will show your EPF accounts with the current and previous employer.
Step 6: Now to get PF balance, click on the Member ID of the EPF account for which you want to check the balance. The EPF passbook will appear online.
