This is a fake app intended to look like the original one. In many cases, the customers receive a phone call from a fraudster, who will claim to be a representative from a tech company/bank offering to fix some issues on your smartphone or mobile banking apps, and then ask you to download a mobile app.
Fraudsters taking unauthorized access of an innocent bank account holder's mobile phone to carry out illegal transactions via UPI using an AnyDesk 'like' app. This is a fake app intended to look like the original one. In many cases, the customers receive a phone call from a fraudster, who will claim to be a representative from a tech company/bank offering to fix some issues on your smartphone or mobile banking apps, and then ask you to download a mobile app. Post the installation of the app a 9-digit code will be generated, which the fraudster will ask you to share.
WARNING!
If you do as they tell you, then the fraudsters are totally in control of your mobile phone device.
Further, once Mobile Banking credentials and PIN are stolen from you and the fraudster can now choose to carry out financial transactions from your fake mobile app which was already installed by you.
Similarly, they also forward SMS and advise you to forward it to a specific mobile number from your phone. Because of which, the fraudster is able to link/register your mobile number/account with UPI on his own mobile device. The fraudster subsequently seeks confidential account-related credentials like Debit Card number, PIN, expiry date, OTP and sets the MPIN which is then used to authenticate transactions. So it is very important to know the safeguard your Phone banking.
Steps to safeguard your Phone banking:
1. While talking to the Phone Banking officer, never disclose the following
a. 4 digit ATM/IVR PIN
b. OTP
c. NetBanking password
d. CVV (Card Verification Value)
2. Ensure that no one sees you entering your PIN (personal identification number).
3. Avoid giving verification details to the Phone Banking officer while in public places.
4. Bank suggests that thee Phone Banking channel is meant to be used by the account holder only, so do not transfer the line or hand over the phone to any other person after you complete self-authentication.
