Have insurance policy? Beware of fraud, do not forget to take this action
The spurt in mis-selling and spurious calls from unauthorised and fake representatives, citing the name of reputed insurance companies have come to knowledge of authorities concerned. The insurance regulator, IRDAI, therefore, from time to time issues advertisements to create awareness in this regard, urging people to approach the police immediately.
If you have an insurance policy or any other policy, you need to be very cautious these day as increasing frauds in the form of spurious calls, and emails have been noticed, wherein mischief makers are offering bonus or investment of premiums to policyholders. In case of such messages, policyholders should first check with their insurance company and take certain steps that will ensure they do not lose money. These steps will ensure that you do not fail to get the benefits of insurance policies that you have paid a lot of good money for. In this respect, HDFC Life has issued some dos and don'ts.
However, it is surprising to know that sometimes cheats identify themselves to be IRDAI officials to persuade their targets. One such incident came to fore recently in East Delhi, in which, two persons were arrested. They had cloned IDs of scores of people and earned crores, the Delhi police revealed.
Looking at increasing incidents of spurious/ fraud calls, HDFC Life has cautioned its customers saying IRDAI is not involved in activities like selling insurance policies, announcing bonus or investment of premiums. It says that members of public receiving such phone calls are requested to lodge a police complaint.
It has also cautioned people stating that criminals might pose as employees of life insurance companies/IRDAI and contact you through phone calls/sms or emails. They may try to trick you with opportunities to earn bonus or benefits on your policy.
The company said that for staying safe and financially secure, people need to beware of fraudulent offers.
They should not respond to such offers or share personal/policy information.
