You must have come across earlier that every time you meet the eligibility criteria in terms of income for credit card, banks sanction you a laminated card with a letter.  In that letter, apart from credit card you will also get a four-digit random numbers by bank which will be used to operate like your ATM pin. This PIN can also help you carry any transaction at Point of Sale (POS) transaction, or internet banking successfully. However, to ensure safety and also eliminate the risk of debit card pin going in wrong hands, many banks have opted a new pattern of service where they just issue the card and ask customers to generate their ATM pin manually.  But not many are aware how to exactly generate credit card pin.

Before we get into how to generate ATM pin, one must note that you should register your mobile number with bank and must be the customer to carry this facility at an ATM. This means, you should not let anyone either be your spouse, family or friends to generate an ATM pin. 

Generating credit card PIN depends bank wise. However, common procedure is that you have to submit a One-Time-Password (OTP) at an ATM to carry forward the procedure successful. It is the availment of OTP which depends bank wise. 

Here’s how you can generate a Credit Card PIN:

Step 1 - You will have to call phone banking service of your bank. After asking few bank account details, they will send you an OTP on your registered mobile number for generation of PIN at ATM. 

Step 2 - Visit Visit your nearby bank branch ATM, and insert your credit card in teller machine.

Step 3 - There will be host of options available like cash withdrawal, balance enquiry and mini statement etc. However, right below these options you must find another pointer which would say generate ATM pin. 

Step 4 - Once selected Generate Pin option, you will be directed to a page which will hold two new options like generate OTP and available OTP. Because you already have retrieved an OTP, select the latter option. 

Step 5 - Once given OTP, you will be asked to put a new PIN. 

Step 6 - Add any random four-digit number which will be easy enough for you to remember and submit. Avoid keeping birthdates and phone number as ATM pin, as it will be easily hacked. 

Step 7 - After entering the new PIN, you will be asked to re-enter the same four-digit number as a second authentication pattern. Then click submit.

Step 8 - ATM pin generated. You can immediately carry any transaction at an ATM, using the new pin number.

Notably, you can also avail OTP via internet banking. After the OTP is received follow the above-mentioned procedures on ATM. 

Apart from ATMs, a customer can also generate pin using SMS and online banking facilities and the instructions vary from bank to bank.
