Gold and Silver Rate Today: The yellow metal on Monday, October 3, showed strength as it advanced over 0.40 per cent on the MCX. The precious metal was seen comfortably holding the psychologically important level of Rs 50,000, up by 0.44 per cent to Rs 50415 per 10 grams.

Silver too maintained gains as it advanced over 1% in today's session and breached the level of Rs 57000. The Silver December futures were trading in green at Rs 57,425 per kg.

Meanwhile, the rupee fell sharply against the American dollar on Monday in early trade, tracking a muted trend in domestic equities and risk-off sentiment among investors. The Indian currency weakened 38 paise to 81.78.

In the domestic equity market, the 30-share BSE Sensex was trading 66.60 points or 0.12 per cent lower at 57,360.32, and the broader NSE Nifty fell 12.90 points or 0.08 per cent to 17,081.45.
