The years of struggle of contractual teachers in Delhi government's Sanskrit, Urdu and Punjabi academies has finally come to an end. The Delhi government has decided to double their salaries. As per the decision of the education department of the state government, the revised salaries will be applicable with effect from 1 July 2017.
According to a report by Hindi daily Hindustan, the contractual PGT teachers at the academies were getting Rs 21,291 salary. This has now been raised to Rs 49,980. Similarly, salary of TGT teachers has been revised from Rs 20,989 to Rs 47,145. For years, these contractual teachers were getting very less salary as compared to other teachers working in Delhi government schools. According to the report, 500 seats of Urdu and 700 Punjabi teachers are vacant in the Delhi government.
Last month, Delhi Cabinet had approved a proposal to revise the pay scales of teachers and administrative posts in universities and colleges in line with the recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC).
“The Cabinet approved the Department of Higher Education proposal for the grant of revised pay scales to teachers and equivalent cadres and administrative posts in universities and colleges following the revision of pay scales of Central government employees on the recommendations of the seventh CPC...,” said an official statement.
“The Delhi government, with a view to provide quality education in these institutions, has been taking appropriate measures from time to time to ensure that the faculty has the talent and commitment to effectively contribute towards achieving the desired objectives,” it said.
