ESIC Beneficiary Alert: Employees' State Insurance beneficiaries can now avail this great relief extended by the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) amid the coronavirus lockdown. The period for filing ESI contribution for the month of February has been further extended to 15 May. it was earlier extended to 15 April. The period for filing contribution for the month of March 2020 is also 15th May, 2020.
No penalty or interest or damages will be levied on establishments during the extended period, a government release said. ESIC works under the aegis of Ministry of Labour & Employment.
The move comes in the wake of nationwide lockdown by the government. As per the government data 3.49 cr Insured Persons (IPs) and over 12.11 lakh employers will get relief with the extension of period for filing the return.

The government has also allowed purchase of medicines by ESI beneficiaries from private chemists during the lockdown period and its subsequent reimbursement by ESIC has been permitted, the release said.
The government recently allowed ESI beneficiaries to avail benefits of non-Covid medical services through Tie-up Hospitals.
ESIC scheme is a self-financing social security and health insurance scheme for Indian workers which is managed by by the ESIC according to rules and regulations stipulated in the ESI Act 1948.
Among other relief measures, the government has made payment of Rs 41 cr in respect of Permanent Disablement Benefit and Dependents' Benefit to the bank accounts of beneficiaries in the month of March, 2020, the release said.

Medical Benefit is provided under Rule 60-61 to the Insured persons who cease to be in insurable employment on account of permanent disablement and to the retired Insured Persons, on payment of advance lump-sum contribution for a year at the rate of Rs 10 per month, the government release said.
