How to merge two or more UANs online? A salaried employee sometimes ends up having multiple Universal Account Numbers (UAN) allotted linked to his/her Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) account in several cases mostly while switching jobs.
The UAN which is a unique 12-digit number allotted by the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), is constant throughout one career even if he/she changes jobs over the years, the UAN remains the same. UAN is allotted to all the contributory members of EPFO and disseminated through the employers. The UAN acts as an umbrella for the multiple member IDs allotted to an individual by different establishments.
How to merge two or more UANs online? Here's your step-by-step guide:
Method 1
In case of two UANs or more, one must report the issue to either the new employer or the EPFO.
One can send an email to uanepf@epfindia.gov.in and mention the current and new UAN.
A verification then will be conducted by the EPFO to resolve the issue.

Subsequently, post the verification, the old UAN will be deactivated.
One must now submit a claim to transfer the EPF account, which is linked with the deactivated UAN, to the new active account.
Method 2
EPFO members should request the transfer of the EPF amount from the old UAN to the new one.
After one has requested for transfer of EPF, the system automatically identifies the duplicate UAN.
After the identification is complete, the old UAN will be deactivated and the employee’s previous member ID gets linked to the new UAN. Besides, an SMS is received on the deactivation status of the old UAN.
