In the first basic step, EPFO urges users to check the balance by SMS (short message service). The organisation asks the PF account holders to send EPFOHO UAN LAN from the registered mobile number to 7738299899. LAN is the first three characters of the preferred language for example Hindi – HIN.
The organisation also asks the PF account holders to give ‘Missed Call’ on 011-22901406 from the registered mobile number. The registered number has to be linked to the EPFO account.
In another attempt, PF account holders can also visit the EPFO website to check the balance. EPFO points out to visit ‘EPF Passbook Portal’, log in using UAN and password and eventually, the users can download or view the passbook.
The organisation has also launched a mobile application Umang to check PF-related queries. A PF account holder can get to EPFO, click ‘Employee Centric Services’, select ‘View Passbook’ and log in with UAN to view passbook. UAN stands for Universal Account Number, given to each PF user.
The organisation earlier this month had come up with an initiative, wherein employees can update their job exit date on the EPFO portal.
The date of exit is updated when the contribution from the employees and employers is stopped. It can only be marked two months after the last contribution made by the employer in the provident fund account of an employee.
