EPFO e-nomination process: A step-by-step guide on how to add profile picture, nominee, other important details
Notably, there is neither a last date declared by EPFO for filing e-nomination nor it is required for filing advance claims, it is just for the financial benefits of your family after your death which you must fill in. Only Aadhaar-verified UAN holders can file an e-nomination.
Nomination is an important aspect when it comes to ensuring maximum utilisation of a financial product. The option to add a nominee is available for almost all financial products, including bank accounts, mutual funds, provident funds and life insurance policies. Failing to add a nominee your EPF account will restrict your family from withdrawing funds from the corpus you build over years in case of your death.
And it is quite common, as reflected in PSU banks' deposits to the tune of Rs. 35,012 crore under unclaimed deposits to the RBI in February 2023. The regulator said recently that it would provide a centralised platform where information on such deposits and their beneficiaries may be shared.
The RBI's move comes in view of the many investors who did not add their nominees or did not inform their legal heirs about their investments in due time.
