EPF Balance Check: Employee’s Provident Fund (EPF) is a popular tool to save retirement corpus for employees in India. Through provident funds, equal contributions are made by the company and the employee towards savings that can be withdrawn during retirement or while switching jobs (under certain conditions).
The EPFO app or the Umang app, the EPFO Portal, a missed call, and an SMS are ways in which PF Contributors can check their EPF balance. 
By checking their EPF balance, PF contributors can — 

  • Plan their expenses
  • Check the status of their EPF balance
  • Avail a loan against EPF balance

There are multiple options available to check the EPF balance which are as follows-

  • Using EPFO online portal
  • Sending an SMS to a mobile number- 7738299899    
  • Giving a missed call to the mobile number- 9966044425
  • Using UMANG mobile application

EPF Balance Check: What is UAN?

Employee Provident Fund (EPF) balance can be checked with UAN Number and without UAN Number. 
UAN or Universal Account Number is a unique identification number provided for all the employees who are enrolled under EPF Scheme.

Here is a step-by-step guide to checking PF balance with and without UAN Number

EPF Balance Check: Here's how to check PF Balance With UAN Number By Using EPFO Portal

Once your UAN Number is activated, follow the following steps-

  1. Go to the EPFO portal. Go to the ‘Our Services’ tab and choose the option ‘For Employees’ under the drop-down menu.
  2. Under ‘Services’, click the option ‘Member Passbook’.
  3. A login page will appear. Enter your UAN Number and the password to log in.
  4. Select the ‘Member ID’ and click on the ‘View Password’ option.
  5. Your EPF details will be displayed on the screen.
  6. The passbook can be printed by clicking on the ‘Download Passbook’ option.

EPF Balance Check: Here's how to check PF Balance With UAN Number By Using EPFO App or UMANG App 

  1. Download the UMANG App from Google Play Store.
  2. Click on the ‘EPFO’ option available under the ‘All Services’ tab.
  3. Click on ‘View Passbook’ under the ‘Employee Centric Service’.

  1. Send an SMS to a mobile number- 7738299899    
  2. The format of the message sent will be ‘EPFOHO UAN ENG’.
  3. You need to set the preference of the language that you will be using to send the SMS. The balance can be checked through SMS only when your UAN Number is active and linked with your PAN, Aadhar, and Bank Account.

The SMS facility is available in the following languages-

  • English (ENG)
  • Hindi (HIN)
  • Marathi (MAR)
  • Punjabi (PUN)
  • Gujarati (GUJ)
  • Kannada (KAN)
  • Telugu (TEL)
  • Tamil (TAM)
  • Malayalam (MAL)
  • Bengali (BEN)

EPF Balance Check: Here's how to check PF Balance without UAN number through Missed Call 

  1. Give a missed call on 9966044425 through your registered mobile number.
  2. After you give a missed call, you will be receiving the PF details through SMS.

Before giving a missed call, ensure the following-

  • Your UAN Number is activated.
  • Your mobile number should be registered with the UAN Number.
  • Your UAN should be linked with your PAN, Aadhar, and bank account.
