Employees Money Matter: In a bold move by the Narendra Modi Government, minimum wages for calculating compensation of the workers has been raised from Rs 8,000 to Rs 15,000. According to the latest Employees Compensation Act 1923 under the vide order number no S.O. 71(E), minimum wages for calculation of workers' compensation has been raised from Rs 8,000 to Rs 15,000. The new minimum wage of Rs 15,000 will be effective from 3rd January 2020.
Employees Compensation Act 1923 order reads, "The Government of India vide notification no S.O. 71(E) has enhanced the wage ceiling under the Employees Compensation Act, from rupees eight thousand to rupees fifteen thousand per month with effect from 3rd January 2020. Therefore, employers are advised to take note that the amount of compensation to be paid to the employee under the Act shall be calculated on the increased wage ceiling of rupees fifteen thousand."

According to the Employees Compensation Act 1923, an employer is liable to pay compensation to the worker in the case of personal injury to the worker by accident arising out of and in the course of his employment, his employer shall be liable to pay compensation in accordance with the provisions of Employees Compensation Act 1923.
The compensation under section 4 of the Employees Compensation Act 1923, shall be paid as soon as it falls due. In cases where the employer does not accept the liability for compensation to the extent claimed, he shall be bound to make provisional payment based on the extent of liability which he accepts, and, such payment shall be deposited with the Commissioner or made to the employee, as the case may be, without prejudice to the right of the employee to make any further claim.
