If you have a bank account in Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC), United Bank of India or Allahabad Bank, then here is an important update for you. The cheque books of these banks will be discontinued from October 1, 2021.

Customers of these banks are required to get their new cheque books from the banks before October 1.

It can be noted that on April 1, 2020, OBC and United Bank of India were merged with the Punjab National Bank (PNB). Now everything from the customer to the branch of both the banks belong to PNB. Similarly, Allahabad Bank has been merged with Indian Bank.

So, if you have an old cheque book from any of these banks then you will have to apply for a new cheque book, so that you do not face any problem in future transactions.

The information was provided by PNB over its Twitter account. "Old cheque book of eOBC & eUNI are going to be discontinued from 01-10-2021. Please replace your old cheque book of eOBC & eUNI with PNB cheque book with updated PNB IFSC and MICR."

 

While Indian Bank tweeted in Hindi, "Important notice! Old cheque of Allahabad Bank customers will not be accepted for payment with effect from 1st October 2021, you are requested to kindly get a new Indian Bank check book for seamless banking."

 

What account holders of these banks required to do?

As per the information provided, the account holders of these banks can apply for a new cheque book through ATM, internet banking, or bank branch.

"Take note and apply for your new cheque book through ATM, Internet Banking, PNB One, Branch," PNB tweeted.

"All the customers are requested to use the new PNB cheque book with updated PNB IFSC and MICR only from now onwards to avoid any transactional inconvenience. Please contact our toll-free number 1800-180-2222 for any assistance or query," PNB added.
