Aadhaar-PAN link: The government has extended the deadline for linking the Aadhaar card – a 12-digit personal identification number issued by the UIDAI – with the Permanent Account Number (PAN) – a 10-digit alphanumeric number. Giving income tax assesses more time to link the two identification numbers, the Centre shifted an earlier deadline of March 31, 2023 by three months to June 30, 2023.

Taxpayers can link their Aadhaar with PAN through the Income Tax Department's portal for filing the income tax return (IRT) online, incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in.
Here is a step-by-step guide on how to link your Aadhaar with PAN:
Step 1: Visit the income tax website https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/.
Step 2: Register yourself, your PAN will be your user ID.
Step 3: Log in by entering the user ID, password and date of birth.
Step 4: A pop-up window will appear, prompting you to link your PAN with your Aadhaar. If not, go to ‘profile settings’ on the menu bar and click on ‘link Aadhaar’.
Step 5: Details such as name date of birth and gender will already be mentioned as per the PAN details.
Step 6: Verify the PAN details on the screen with the ones mentioned on your Aadhaar. Please note that if there is a mismatch, you need to get the same corrected in either of the documents.
Step 7: If the details match, enter your Aadhaar number and click on the 'link now' button.
Step 8: A pop-up message will inform you that your Aadhaar has been successfully linked to your PAN.
Step 9: You may also visit https://www.utiitsl.com/ OR https://www.egov-nsdl.co.in/ to link your PAN and Aadhaar.
Who needs to link their Aadhaar card and PAN?
Section 139AA of the Income Tax Act provides that every individual who has been allotted a PAN as of the 1st day of July 2017, and who is eligible to obtain an Aadhaar number, shall intimate their Aadhaar number in the prescribed form and manner.
