A Delhi High Court bench order on Wednesday may have brought cheers for parents of school going kids, but it has also crushed the 7th Pay Commission recommendations linked pay hike hopes of the Delhi private unaided schools teachers and other employees. It's notable that there is a huge difference in the salary of government school teachers and private school teachers. The case pertains to the Delhi government's plea seeking quashing of single judge bench's order setting aside the government's April 13, 2018 circular not allowing the private unaided schools in the city to hike their fees to implement recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission. The court has put an interim stay till April 8 on the single-judge bench's order. The Delhi High Court bench of Justice S. Muralidhar and Justice I.S. Mehta asked the Action Committee - Unaided Recognised Private Schools to file a reply on Delhi government's plea. The Action Committee is an association of 325 private schools built on government or public land.

The Delhi government's April 13, 2018 circular had barred private unaided schools that were on government land from hiking tuition fee without the approval of the Directorate of Education, reports IANS. While the teachers of these private schools will have to wait for a pay hike, Centre had approved the extension of 7th Pay Commission for teachers and other academic staff of the state government/government aided/private degree level technical institutions in January this year.  The move, once implemented in institutions, will benefit a total of 29,264 teachers and other academic staff besides about 3.5 lakh teachers and other academic staff of private colleges/ institutions.
