After announcing the pay hike for teachers as per 7th Pay Commission, now the government has said that for college teachers research will not be mandatory at the under graduate level for promotions, a media report said. 

Union Minister Prakash Javedekar said at the National Convention on Higher Education Perpectives in India that teachers will soon get the benefits of the 7th Pay Commission.

According to a report by OneIndia, HRD Ministry is working on a plan which will make research options to get promotion. Consequently, the Ministry will make changes in the Academic Performance Index.

However, instead of research, the teachers will have to engage students and themselves more in community activities. 

Presently, just like university professors, college teachers are required to do research activity to get promotions. However, as per the report which quoted Javadekar saying that the Ministry is of view that both are completely different category for teachers. 

Moreover, the Ministry will be making an official announcement soon. 

Apart from teachers, the government has also made partial modification in the transport allowance under 7th CPC. Ministry of Finance said that these changes will be effective from July 1, 2017. Also, these orders will be applicable to all civil employees of the central government. 

"Central Government employees who are drawing pay of Rs.24200/- & above in Pay Level 1 & 2 of the Pay Matrix, shall be eligible for grant of Transport Allowance @ Rs.3600/- plus D.A. thereon at the cities mentioned in the Annexure to the above cited OM. and @ Rs.1800/- plus D.A. thereon at all Other Places. All other contents of the above cited OM. dated 07.07.2017 shall remain unchanged. These orders shall be effective from 1st July, 2017," Ministry said. 

On June 28, Union Cabinet had approved recommendations under 7th Pay Commission with 34 modifications.
