7th pay commission: Employees of Uttar Pradesh said that they are trying to get the old pension system restored in any situation before the Lok Sabha elections.
7th Pay Commission: The roumours are rife that the Central government may go for a hike in the fitment factor before the Lok Sabha election code of conduct comes into play. The Centre has already made some amendment in the National Pension System to appease the employees demanding the restoration of the old pension scheme. Demand for OPS is increasing in states like Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Madhya Pradesh. On the other hand, the Delhi government had assured its employees that it will revert to the OPS. This has given a booster shot to employees of other states.
Employees of Uttar Pradesh said that they are trying to get the old pension system restored in any situation before the Lok Sabha elections. In an exclusive interaction with Zee Business Digital, UP Joint Struggle Steering Committee (S4) chief SP Tiwari said that the employees' movement has been going on for long and millions of state employees are trying to send their demand to PM via his radio programme 'Mann ki Baat'. Tiwari warned that the government employees will start 'Jail Bharo' movement from January 1 if their demands are not met with.
S4 General Secretary R K Nigam said that the government employees serve the state government for over 30 years yet they are not being given OPS. He alleged that even if one becomes MP or MLA even for one hour, they get a pension for the lifetime.

On December 20, 2018, more than one lakh government employees participated in a huge rally demanding the OPS. If the OPS is implemented, it will not only benefit the employees but their dependents as well after the death of the pensioner.
