7th Pay Commission: Northern Railway Mens Union (NRMU) has laid before the government certain demands in terms of wages and other facilities that should be given to them. Among them are to provide medical and privilege pass facility to the dependent parents of the Indian Railways employees under the 7th Pay Commission proposals. Currently, an Indian Railways employee's mother is entitled to these facilities when his or her father passes away. Till father is alive, the 7th Pay Commission proposal says that she dependent on her husband and hence she is not entitled to the free medical and privilege pass facility. The 7th Pay Commission denies these facilities to the employee's father, even when he is dependent on the Indian Railways employee.

Speaking in the demands Anoop Sharma, General Secretary — Delhi chapter at Northern Railway Mens Union (NRMU) said, "Our general body elections are scheduled for August 27th and 28th this year and our pledge to our employees is to get free medical and privilege pass facility to its dependent parents, which includes father also. Currently, the provision says only mother will be entitled to these facilities and it would be available to her only when the employee's father is not alive." Anoop Sharma of NRMU said that we have put forth our demand towards the concerned officials and other concerned ministries in the central government and we are committed to getting these demands met as soon as possible.

It should be noted that elections for the general body meeting of the railway employees union is scheduled for August 27th and 28th this year and the various unions related to the Indian railways are pressing hard for the age-old demands to be met or to get the concerned officials to pay heed to their needs, which the railway union office bearers can showcase in these elections. The Indian Railways union is also demanding a hike in the minimum wage from existing Rs 18,000 to Rs 26,000 as the existing proposal in the 7th Pay Commission is not in sync with their demand.
