7th Pay Commission: The government had said that central government employees and pensioners will be given full DA, DR benefits from July 1. The final call and strategy regarding the same were to be chalked out in a meeting on May 8, however, it has been postponed due to Covid 19 crisis. The officials of the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) and the Ministry of Finance (Department of Expenditure) were set to hold a meeting with the National Council of JCM regarding full DA, DR benefits. Now, the meeting is likely to be held in the last week of May, said a Live Minit report. Meaning, central government employees will have to wait a little longer for more clarity on their pending DA.

Though the Centre had announced full DA benefits from July 1, it has not made its stand clear on three pending DA installments from January 1, 2020, July 1, 2020, and January 1, 2021. The meeting that was postponed to May end was expected to clear picture around the pending DAs. Currently, central government employees are getting DA at 17 per cent and with full benefits, it is expected that they will get 28 per cent DA from July 1. However, it is yet to be seen what the government decided on the pending DAs.  

Earlier, in much-needed relief, Minister for State for Finance Anurag Thakur had said that three pending DA instalments to central government employees will be “subsumed in the cumulative revised rates of DA effective from July 1, 2021. He had had said the central government employees will get full DA benefits, starting July 1, with three pending installments being restored prospectively.  

"As and when the decision to release the future installments of Dearness Allowance due from 01.07.2021 is taken, the rates of DA as effective from 01.01.2020, 01.07.2020 and 01.01. 2021 will be restored prospectively and will be subsumed in the cumulative revised rates effective from 01.07.2021," Thakur had told Rajya Sabha in a written reply.
