ITR Refund: Want to check Income Tax Refund status online? Do it this way at incometaxindia.gov.in; easy stepwise method

ITR Refund Status: The Income Tax Department has informed that it has issued income tax refund of Rs 1,73,139 crore to more than 1.57 crore taxpayers between 1st April, 2020 to 11th January, 2021. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) informed about the income tax refund from its official twitter handle. However, immediately after this tweet a huge number of taxpayers started complaining on their respective social media platforms that they are yet to get their income tax refund, in fact, they said that they didn't know the exact income tax refund status.

For information of the income tax return filing (ITR filing) taxpayers, the income tax refund comes within seven to 10 days of the ITR filing. So, they are advised to keep an eye on their respective income tax refund status on the official income tax website — incometaxindia.gov.in. So that, if there is any anomaly in their ITR filing, they can correct that and get their ITR refund on time.

How to check Income Tax Refund status online

To check ITR refund status online, one needs to go to the official website of the Income Tax department - incometaxindia.gov.in and follow some simple steps.
Here is the step by step guide to check one's income tax refund status online:

1] Log in at the official Income Tax Department website - incometaxindia.gov.in;

2] Visit 'My Account' on the home page and click at 'Refund/Demand Status';

3] Below details will be displayed on your computer monitor

a) Assessment year;
b) Status;
c) Reason for failure of refund (if any); and
d) Mode of payment.

If the actual income tax paid by the taxpayer is more than TDS, self-assessment tax and advance tax, then the taxpayer is eligible to get income tax refund from the government.
