EPF passbook: How to check PF balance from anywhere without internet access

EPF Passbook: EPF, or Employees' Provident Fund, is one of the simplest ways to save for retirement. As the sum is deducted from the employee's salary each month, it becomes easier to contribute to the fund's corpus. Furthermore, the employer contributes an equivalent amount (12 per cent of the employee's dearness allowance and basic income) to the provident fund.

In case an employee changes his/her job, they can still easily continue with the same EPF account as there will be no change in the UAN (Universal Account Number). Also, the EPFO also allows individuals to withdraw a part of their EPF corpus in case of emergencies, under certain circumstances. However, to be able to withdraw their EPF corpus, it is important that they are first aware of how much amount they have in their EPF. Here are some ways by which one can check EPF balance without internet access:

Checking EPF balance by SMS

Individuals who have activated their UAN can get details about their PF account through a short message service (SMS).

How to check EPF balance by SMS?

To check EPF balance through SMS, one must link their UAN to KYC information and then send an SMS to this in the following format:

EPFOHO UAN ENG to 7738299899.

'ENG' represents the desired language. One can have the option of viewing the current EPF balance in the language of their choice. For any other language, one needs to enter the first three letters of their preferred language. The below table shows a list of codes for some of the common languages that people use-

Checking EPF balance by missed call

To check the current balance of the EPF account by missed call, dial 011-22901406 from the registered mobile. It should be noted that to get information by missed call, the person's UAN must be linked to their KYC.

Once you dial the specified number, the call will be disconnected after a few rings. Following this, one will receive an SMS alert with their EPF information.
