PSU bank State Bank of India (SBI) has appointed Rama Mohan Rao Amara as the managing director (MD) for a period of three years. Amara's appointment has been approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).

The appointment follows a proposal by the Department of Financial Services and will be effective from the date Amara assumes charge, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Amara has been associated with public lender for almost three decades. Began his career in 1991 as a SBI probationary officer, he has held various key positions, including chief general manager of SBI’s Bhopal Circle, where he oversaw operations in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

Amara has also served as SBI’s Chicago branch and later as President and CEO of SBI California.
