A healthy work environment in the workplace is a priority for all. However, many videos of senior executives losing their cool and abusing their subordinates often emerge on social media. Recently another such video has gone viral, in which a senior executive of HDFC Bank is caught abusing colleagues during an online meeting.

The video was first shared on LinkedIn by a user named Soumi Chakraborty. And later it was shared and reposted on other platforms too.

The LinkedIn post read, "Example of a toxic work environment and toxic manager, Senior VP Pushpal Roy. This is the reason why we need strict labour laws in our country."

In the video, the executive seems to communicate in Bengali, snapping at his subordinates while taking the call on their work targets and progress. In the shared video, Roy can be heard saying "Shut Up" to the employees.

After the video went viral and drew sharp criticism online, HDFC Bank has suspended the senior executive.

"This bears reference to a recent social media report. Based on a preliminary inquiry into the matter, the concerned employee has been suspended, and a detailed investigation has been initiated, which will be undertaken as per the bank's conduct guidelines. We at HDFC Bank have a zero-tolerance policy for any form of misconduct at the workplace and firmly believe in treating all our employees with dignity and respect," HDFC Bank said in a reply to the LinkedIn post.

A LinkedIn user commented, "Toxic people are not leaders. Organisations lose good resources because of this type of culture."

On the other hand, a Twitter user commented, "Sales is a high-pressure, high-rewarded job. You get paid very well to be in the sale. Do people get paid less if they do not meet their quota? There are two sides to every story."

 

 

Many users on social media called for strict labour laws in the country for a better workplace culture. Most of them stated that this kind of toxicity has become the culture of many organisations in order to achieve their targets.
