Bank Holidays In October 2022, Diwali Bank Holidays: Diwali celebrations begin today and they will be followed by other festivals like Bhai Duj and Diwali Balipratipada. On account of this, several banks across the country will remain closed for four days this week. While most of the banks will remain closed today i.e. October 24, on other days holidays will be state specific.

It is worth mentionining that these holidays will be under 'Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act'. For the uninitiated, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) put holidays under three brackets - Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act, Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act and Real-Time Gross Settlement Holiday and Banks’ Closing of Accounts.

 

Bank Holidays This Week

 

October 24: As per the 'Holiday Description' of the RBI's list of bank holidays in October, banks will remain closed on October 24 on account of 'Kali Puja/Deepavali/Diwali (Laxmi Pujan)/Naraka Chaturdashi.' Banks across the country, except in Gangtok and Imphal, will remain closed today. 

October 25: The Central bank said that banks in Gangtok, Imphal and Jaipur will remain closed on October 25 for 'Laxmi Puja/Deepawali/Govardhan Pooja'. All banks under other regional offices will remain closed. 

October 26: Banks in Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bengaluru, Dehradun, Gangtok, Jammu, Kanpur, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Shimla and Srinagar to remain closed on October 26 on the occasion of 'Govardhan Pooja/Vikram Samvat New Year Day/Bhai Bij/Bhai Duj/Diwali (Bali Pratipada)/Laxmi Puja/Accession Day'

October 27: Banks in Gangtok, Imphal, Kanpur and Lucknow will remain closed for 'Bhaidooj/Chitragupt Jayanti/Laxmi Puja/Deepawali/Ningol Chakkouba.' 

As per the RBI's list of holidays for banks in October 2022, there are 21 bank holidays. This also includes second Saturday and all Sundays. Apart from four bank holidays this week, there will be one more bank holiday left for this month. The last bank holiday of October will on 31st. Banks falling under the regional offices of Ahmedabad, Patna and Ranchi will remain closed on 31st October 2022 for 'Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s Birthday/Surya Pashti Dala Chhath (Morning ardhya)/Chhath Puja.'
