D-Street Newsmakers: L&T, HCL Tech, SCI among 7 stocks that hogged limelight today

Even as the Nifty index hit its fresh record high in early trade on June 12, it failed to sustain the highs and ended with minor gains ahead of the key US policy outcome later in the day.

After hitting a fresh record high in early trade at 23,441.95, the Nifty index ended with gains of 0.25 per cent or 58.7 points at 23,323.55 as drag in the FMCG pack weighed. Meanwhile, Sensex added 0.2 per cent or 150 points and settled at 76,606.57. Broader markets, however, continued to post robust performance, with both Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 indice logging their fresh highs today. 

“Markets failed to capitalise on its firm start but eked out modest gains on select buying support, as cautioned prevailed amongst investors ahead of US policy rate meeting later in the day. Besides, investors would be watchful of domestic inflation & IIP data which can give a sense about where the domestic growth is headed in the medium term,” Prashanth Tapse, Senior VP (Research) at Mehta Equities said.
