D-Street Newsmakers: Bharti Airtel, GAIL, MGL among stocks that hogged limelight today

Indian equities after notching fresh peaks in early trade retreated lower amid weakness in the IT and metal stocks. At the close, Nifty fell 152.7 points from the new all-time high of 23411.9 scaled during the session and settled at 23259.2, while Sensex was dragged nearly 589 points from the new peak of 77079.04 to 76490.08 level. Meanwhile, broader markets outperformed their headline indices, with the Nifty Smallcap 100 ending 1.5 per cent higher.
