Stock market today: Domestic blue-chip indices Nifty50 and Sensex traded in a range-bound market on Tuesday, April 23. The Nifty50 index ended 31.6 points, or 0.14 per cent, higher at 22,368, and the Sensex settled with a gain of 89.83 points, or 0.12 per cent, at 73,738.45.

From the Nifty50 basket, Grasim, Bharti Airtel, Nestle India, Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors were the major gainers. Sun Pharma, BPCL, RIL, Dr Reddy's and Hindalco were among the laggards. At close,  24 stocks advanced on Nifty50, 25 stocks declined while one settled at the flatline.

"The domestic market exhibited range-bound performance, tracking positive global cues with sustained outperformance of the broader market. While tensions between Iran and Israel were perceived to have limited escalation, the uptick in crude prices suggests investors’ reassessing the risks.," Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Financial Services said. 

"With higher levels of dollar index and US bond yields, FIIs are expected to continue with outflows, but inflows from DIIs are supporting the recovery," he added. 

Nifty Bank settled 0.1 per cent or 45.55 points higher at Rs 47,970.45. Meanwhile, Nifty Smallcap 100 and Nifty Midcap 100 gained 1.23 per cent and 1.06 per cent, respectively. 

Global Market 

European stocks scaled to their highest levels in more than a week on Tuesday, driven by the healthcare and technology sector, as investors found comfort in upbeat corporate earnings, while the UK's FTSE 100 Index climbed to hit an all-time peak.

The pan-European STOXX 600 index was up 0.6 per cent, as of 0838 GMT, boosted by a nearly 0.9 per cent jump in healthcare stocks. Helping the sector's rise was a 4.8 per cent gain in Novartis as the Swiss drugmaker raised its full-year outlook after reporting first-quarter results that surpassed expectations.
