FINAL TRADE: Bulls roar on D-Street today, Nifty at 24,044.5; Sensex jumps 569 pts

Stock market today: The bulls were all over the place on Dalal Street on Thursday, June 27, as the market witnessed heavy buying of technology and oil & gas stocks. The 30-share BSE Sensex jumped 568.93 points or 0.72 per cent to hit its new lifetime closing high of 79,243.18 after scaling a record high of 79,396.03, breaching the historic 79,350 mark.

The Nifty also bounced back, rising 175.7 points or 0.74 per cent to hit its fresh all-time closing high of 24,044.5. During the trade on Thursday, Nifty breached the 24,050 level for the first time, amid buying in blue-chip stocks.

"The benchmark indices exhibited bullish momentum, buoyed by expected revival in the IT sector and consolidation in the cement industry. However, the broader market remained sideways due to valuation concerns and FII selling owing to rising US bond yields, Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Financial Services said.

"Meanwhile, the US market put up a mixed performance, with investor sentiment remaining cautious ahead of key US data releases for the week, including the PCE price index, which could provide new impetus for rate cuts," he said.

Among the 50 Nifty companies, UltraTech Cement, LTIMindree, Graism, NTPC, and Wipro were the biggest gainers. Larsen & Toubro, Shriram Finance, Eicher Motors, Divi's, and HDFC Bank were among the laggards.

The domestically focussed Nifty SmallCap100 was down 0.67 per cent, while Nifty MidCap100 settled 0.32 per cent higher, respectively.

The high-beta Nifty Bank index, whose 12 constituents include SBI, HDFC Bank, and ICICI Bank finished 0.11 per cent or 59.2 points lower at 52,811.3.

Global Market

European shares edged lower on Thursday as investors avoided large bets ahead of crucial global economic data and the first round of French elections. Last seen, the pan-European STOXX 600 were down 0.17 per cent.
