NSE, BSE special trading session 2024: The special session is part of the framework for the Business Continuity Plan (BCP) and Disaster Recovery Site (DRS) for stock exchanges and depositories.
NSE, BSE special trading session 2024: Stock exchanges BSE and NSE are all set to conduct two special trading sessions on Saturday, March 2, 2024, aimed at testing their preparedness in case of any unexpected disaster in the system. The sessions were originally scheduled to be held on Saturday, January 20, a day that was utilised for normal trading operations to accommodate a holiday on January 22 declared by the Centre for the grand opening of the Ram temple in Uttar Pradesh's Ayodhya.
Is the stock market open on March 2, 2024?
Yes. Both the bourses will open for a shorter-than-normal duration on Saturday, March 2.
Why will the stock market open on Saturday?
The special session is part of the framework for the Business Continuity Plan (BCP) and Disaster Recovery Site (DRS) for stock exchanges and depositories. Hence, the first Saturday of March is not a stock market holiday, according to the exchange.
"Members are requested to note that Exchange shall be conducting a special live trading session with intra-day switch over from Primary site to Disaster Recovery site on Saturday, March 02, 2024, in Equity and Equity Derivatives segments,” according to an NSE circular dated February 14.
The special live trading session will include an intraday switch to the disaster recovery site from the primary official website, according to NSE.
The scheduled special session is organised following discussions with market regulator SEBI and the regulator's technical advisory committee to assess the preparedness of market infrastructure institutions (MIIs) to handle any unforeseen event impacting their operations and restore operations from the DR site within the stipulated recovery time objective in such an event.
BSE, NSE special trading session timings
There will be two special live trading sessions conducted by the stock market, the timings for which are 9:15 am to 10 am and 11:30 am to 12:30 pm.
NSE in its official circular said: “Members are requested to note that Exchange shall be conducting a special live trading session with intra-day switch over from Primary site to Disaster Recovery site on Saturday, March 02, 2024, in Equity and Equity Derivatives segments.”
While the first of the two-part session will commence at 9:15 am, following a 15-minute pre-open session, and go on till 10 am through the primary NSE website, the second will be run for one hour, starting at 11:30 am following another 15-minute pre-open session, from the disaster recovery site.
