Indian equities in a volatile session on the weekly expiry day ended lower for the second consecutive day. Nifty ended below 25,150 levels at 25,145.1, down 53.6 points or 0.21 per cent while the Sensex gave up 0.18 per cent or 151.48 points and ended at 82,201.16 levels.

Sectorally losses in the realty, oil & gas and auto indices capped the gains despite buying in select pockets including media, consumer durable and PSU Banking stocks among others.

From the Nifty pack, top gainers included stocks like Titan, LTIMindtree, Wipro, BPCL and ITC, while laggards included stocks such as Cipla, RIL, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, Coal India and Britannia.

Meanwhile, despite high valuations broader markets scaled new peak today. Both the Nifty Midcap 100 as well as Nifty Small 100 indices notched fresh high earlier in the day today.

Sectorally, media and consumer durables stocks were the most resilient gaining as much as 1 per cent.

Meanwhile, European stocks traded mixed as investors grew anxious ahead of the key US data due to be released on Friday. This data is integral as it will offer cues on the interest rate path that the US central reserve will resort to.
