After Nifty logs 350-point weekly loss, macro data, quarterly results set to influence market in holiday-shortened week

Headline indices Sensex and Nifty50 dropped about 1.5 per cent each last week, with the 30-scrip index shedding 1,276 points and the 50-blue-chip index losing 350.2 points amid selling pressure across most sectors. Among NSE's sectoral gauges, Nifty Metal and Nifty PSU Bank were the worst hit, each falling almost three per cent.

In the Nifty50 basket of shares, Grasim, Tata Steel, UltraTech, Maruti Suzuki and BPCL - falling 4-5 per cent - were the worst hit among the 37 weekly losers. On the other hand, Cipla, Eicher Motors, HUL, Bajaj Auto and ITC - rising between 1.4 per cent and 3.0 per cent - were the top gainers.

Most sectoral indices logged weekly losses, in tandem with headline gauges; Nifty Metal fell 3% 

Among broader indices, Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 fell 1.3 per cent and 2.1 per cent last week, respectively. In the BSE 500 universe, 150 stocks gained while the others fell. Domestic 

Official readings on factory output and consumer inflation in the country will be released post-market hours, at 5:30 pm, on Monday.

Data on wholesale inflation is due at noon on Wednesday. 

Global 

• Monday: Germany wholesale inflation data
• Tuesday: UK employment data 
• Wednesday: UK, France inflation data; Eurozone employment, GDP, industrial production data; US inflation, crude oil stockpiles data
• Thursday: China factory activity, employment data; UK GDP data; US retail sales, jobless claims data
