Buddha Purnima 2023 holiday: Public and private sector banks will remain closed on May 5, Friday on the account of Buddha Purnima as per the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) bank official holiday calendar. Buddha Purnima is one of the most significant festivals for Buddhists around the world. Buddhist throughout the world celebrate the auspicious day with great enthusiasm as the day commemorates the birth of the founder of Buddhism--Gautama Buddha.

Banks will remain closed on May 5 in Agartala, Aizawl, Belapur, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Raipur, Ranchi, Shimla, and Srinagar on the occasion of Buddha Purnima.

However, one needs to note that bank holidays differ according to states and regions as some holidays are observed as nationwide public holidays while others are treated as local holidays. Hence, it is advised to visit the bank branch accordingly for any bank-related important work next month.

Banks will remain closed for 6 additional days including the second and fourth Saturdays and all Sundays in the month of May.
