Share Market HIGHLIGHTS: Geopolitical tensions continued to weigh on investor sentiment as domestic equities settled in negative territory for the third straight day on Monday, October 16. Share Market HIGHLIGHTS: Geopolitical tensions continued to weigh on investor sentiment as domestic equities settled in negative territory for the third straight day on Monday, October 16. At close, the S&P BSE Sensex stood at 66,166.93 levels, down 116 points, or 0.17 per cent while the NSE's Nifty ended at 19,731.75, down 19 points, or 0.1 per cent. On the sectoral front, metal stocks gained the most. The S&P BSE METAL index rallied 1.37 per cent. Consumer durable stocks also gained in the trade. 

In the broader market, the S&P BSE MidCap index rose 0.25 per cent while the S&P BSE SmallCap index ended 0.34 per cent higher.

  • Share Market Today LIVE | Federal Bank reports 35.5% YoY rise in Q2 net profit to Rs 954 crore

    Shares of Federal Bank trade at Rs 147.2, up 1.54 per cent or Rs 2.3 on the BSE after the bank reported a 35.5 per cent year-on-year (YoY) increase in its standalone net profit at Rs 953.82 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2023 (Q2FY24). In the year-ago period, the figure stood at Rs 703.71 crore. The total income of the lender came in at Rs 6,185.7 crore, up 33.5 per cent against Rs 4,630.3 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal. Read more

    The Kochi-based private sector lender reports a net profit of Rs 953.8 crore for the quarter ended September 30, as against a net profit of Rs 703.7 crore for the corresponding period a year ago.

    Its net interest income, or the difference between the interest earned and the interest paid, increases 16.7 per cent on a year-on-year basis to Rs 2,056.4 crore, according to a regulatory filing.

    The Federal Bank stock adds on to the day's gains after the earnings announcement, scaling a 52-week high on BSE. The stock strengthens by as much as Rs 3.1, or two per cent, to Rs 152.6 apiece on the bourse, surpassing an existing 52-week peak registered on October 3.

    The earnings beat analysts' estimates. According to Zee Business research, the bank's quarter net profit was estimated at Rs 840 crore and NII at Rs 2,000 crore.

    Avenue Supermarts: Avenue Supermarts Ltd, which owns and operates the retail chain D-Mart, reported on Saturday a 9.09 per cent fall in consolidated net profit at Rs 623.35 crore for the second quarter ended September 30, as gross margins were impacted due to a lesser contribution from the general merchandise and apparel business. The company had posted a net profit of Rs 685.71 crore in the July-September quarter a year ago, said Avenue Supermarts in a regulatory filing.

    Earnings today: Cyient DLM, CEAT, Nelco, and Federal Bank are among some of the companies that are slated to release their September quarter numbers later in the day. 

    Tata Motors: Tata Motors on Friday said it had inked a pact to sell a 9.9 per cent stake in Tata Technologies to TPG Rise Climate for Rs 1,613.7 crore. The company has entered into share purchase agreements to sell a 9.9 per cent stake in Tata Technologies Ltd (TTL) for an aggregate consideration of Rs 1,613.7 crore, the Mumbai-based auto major said in a statement.

    PVR INOX: Leading cinema chain PVR INOX Ltd on Saturday announced a new initiative "PVR INOX Passport", a first-of-its-kind movie subscription pass aimed at "irrigating the film industry" and motivating consumers to frequently visit theatres. As per the monthly subscription pass, which will be available from October 16, cinemagoers will be able to watch up to 10 movies per month for just Rs 699. The offer will be applicable from Monday to Thursday and excludes premium offerings like IMAX, Gold, LUXE and Director's Cut. Read more
