Share Market HIGHLIGHTS: Bears continued to be in the driver's seat for the sixth straight session on Thursday (October 26) as geopolitical tensions, a rise in US bond yields, and a slide in IT counters made investors jittery. Additionally, the market was also volatile as it was the last day of the futures & options (F&O) contracts for the October series.
The S&P BSE Sensex nosedived 901 points, or 1.41 per cent to settle at 63,148.15, while the NSE Nifty slipped below the 18,900 level to close at 18,857.25 points, down 64.9 points, or 1.39 per cent.

Asian Paints reported its September quarter results on Thursday (October 26), reporting a 53.31 per cent jump in its profit after tax to Rs 1,232.39 crore in the quarter under review from Rs 803.83 crore in the same quarter last fiscal. The company's revenue from operations in the September quarter jumped 0.24 per cent to Rs 8,478.57 crore from Rs 8457.57 crore in the corresponding period last year. Read more
Asian Paints on Thursday, October 26 announced an interim dividend of Rs 5.15 per equity share of the face value of Re 1 each for the financial year ending 31 st March 2024, i.e., a 515 per cent payout along with its July-September quarter earning report. Read more

Indian equity benchmarks continues to nosedive for the sixth straight session on Thursday ahead of the monthly expiry today. Nifty gives up 19,000 to trade 1.37 per cent lower at 18,860 for the first time since Jun2 28 amid broad-based selling.
Here are the reasons for the continued free fall in the benchmarks:
Middle East crisis: The ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict can pull the global economy into recession and depress the stock market by 20 per cent, economists at Ernst & Young warned.
"There is risk-off in global equity markets triggered by a combination of economics and geopolitics. The Israel-Hamas conflict continues to be a major headwind for markets. If the conflict lingers for long, it has the potential to impact global growth, too, when the global economy is already in the midst of a slowdown," V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Financial Services said.
Global markets: Asian markets traded in the red following a weak overnight session in the US, with South Korea’s Kospi and Japan’s Nikkei indices trading with over 2 per cent losses.
Fresh FII offloading: In the previous trading session, FIIs net sold Indian equities worth Rs 4236.6 crore as per the provisional data. Persistent selling by Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) is weighing on Indian equities. Read more
