Share Market HIGHLIGHTS | Domestic equity benchmarks Nifty 50 and Sensex on Tuesday, December 26 finished higher amid buying in all sectors except IT, Media and the PSU Bank index. The surge in some Asian stocks supported a rally on Dalal Street after cooler-than-expected US inflation data boosted hopes of interest rate cuts by the Federal Reserve next year.
Among the Nifty 50 stocks, 41 stocks advanced with Divi's Laboratories, Hero MotoCorp, Adani Enterprises, NTPC, and ONGC being the top gainers rising between 4.55 per cent to 2.16 per cent. On the flip side, Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, Infosys, TCS, and Tata Motors were the top losers slipping between 1.65 per cent to 0.65 per cent.
The S&P BSE Sensex ended 229.84 points, or 0.32 per cent, higher at 71,336.8, and the NSE Nifty was up 91.95 points, or 0.43 per cent, at 21,441.35. Meanwhile, the Nifty Mid Cap 100 and Small Cap 100 closed higher. High-beta Nifty Bank settled 0.49 per cent higher at 47,724.85.

Markets in 2023 | Here's how Sensex and Nifty fared; check out the top gainers of the year
Domestic benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty have rewarded investors with positive returns in 2023. Overall, Sensex has risen 16 per cent year-to-date (YTD), while Nifty 50 soared 18.6 per cent.
According to Zee Business Research, among the Nifty 50 stocks, the top gainers for the year were Tata Motors, which gained 87 per cent, NTPC, which soared 85 per cent, Bajaj Auto, which was up 78 per cent, L&T, which rose 68 per cent and Coal India, which surged 64 per cent. On the other hand, UPL and Adani Enterprises were the top losers, slipping over 18 per cent and 25 per cent, respectively.
The Indian equity market in 2023 has experienced significant growth, thanks to record-high collections in the mutual fund (MF) industry. This reflects the robust participation of domestic investors. Simultaneously, the primary market has been vibrant, and foreign institutional investors (FIIs) are showing increased interest, indicating a strong sense of confidence in the Indian market, said Kenneth Andrade, founder, director of Old Bridge Capital Management, and CIO of Old Bridge Asset Management.
