Share Market HIGHLIGHTS: Sensex ends 278 pts higher, Nifty50 reclaims 21,800 as financial, auto shares aid recovery on Dalal Street
Share Market HIGHLIGHTS: Domestic equity benchmarks Nifty50 and Sensex managed to finish a volatile session higher on Wednesday, February 14, after a worse-than-expected US inflation reading sent the three main Wall Street indices, the Dow Jones Industrial Average, the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite, tumbling more than one per cent each. Gains in financial, auto and oil & gas shares aided the intraday recovery on Dalal Street, though losses in IT counters limited the upside, after both Dalal Street gauges began the day about three-quarters of a percentage point lower.
The US inflation data, pushing back market expectations of imminent interest rate cuts in the world's largest economy, came days after official data showed inflation in India cooled to a three-month low in January.
Meanwhile, investors awaited more earnings reports from India Inc for domestic cues. Key factors behind Wednesday's fall on Dalal Street
