  • Share Market Today LIVE: Dow Jones inched higher, Nasdaq surged 2% on Friday

The prospect of benchmark interest rates remaining elevated, as the Fed battles inflation, is further clouding the outlook for shares of smaller US companies, which have lagged broader markets this year. Smallcap stocks surged at the end of 2023, as expectations grew that the US central bank was done raising interest rates and would soon begin easing monetary policy. That would be a welcome change for smaller companies, which rely more heavily on debt financing and consumer spending.

Here's how the three main Wall Street indices fared on Friday:

    • Dow Jones: up 39.5 points, or 0.1%, at 38,714.1
    • S&P 500: up 63.6 points, or 1.3%, at 5,127.8
    • Nasdaq Composite: up 308.1 points, or 2.0%, at 16,149.1
