Share Market Today LIVE | Debt ceiling resolution and its impact on Indian markets
MarketsMojo's Chief Investment Officer Sunil Damania shares his view on debt ceiling resolution on Zee Business. He said that the world market was watching the US debt ceiling negotiation with eagle eyes, as not reaching a consensus could have unprecedented consequences for the world economy.
"Fortunately, common sense prevailed, as it did in 2011, and a compromise formula has been negotiated in which the debt ceiling limit has been suspended for 2 years, he added.
This is a huge relief for global equity and debt markets. The compromise formula will lift sentiments temporarily for investors across the world, but the market will eventually return to the fundamentals of inflation, interest rates, and other macro factors, he further said.

In conversation with Zee Business Managing Editor Anil Singhvi, Founder & Chief Investment Officer of Marcellus Investment Managers — Saurabh Mukherjea says that economic growth has been smooth, the kind not seen in India in about 15 years despite aggressive hikes in interest rates. "We have suggested institutions in the US to invest in India to benefit from India's progress," he said.
Here are other key highlights:
- Banks have strong balance sheets despite rate hikes; investors must have good-quality banks + NBFCs in their portfolios.(Disclaimer: Marcellus as well as its clients have invested in these stocks)
- FIIs have investments to the tune of $3.5 trillion in China vs $0.6 trillion in India
- India has 1/6th of FII investments in China. India has given double the return to FIIs than China in the past 10 years. He added that FII fund flow to India may double in India in 3-4 years and that may boost the Indian market
- The US outlook is positive whereas concerns remain about China's economy. Germany is in recession. US recovery and strong economic growth in India will continue to support the global economy
