No respite for stock markets on Friday! After Indian a bloodbath in domestic equities, US markets are now seeing a rout. Dow 30 was trading at 29,448.30 and was down by 628.42 points or 2.09 per cent. Nasdaq Composite was down by 247.29 point or 2.23 per cent and was trading at 10,819.50. While the S&P 500 was trading at 3,674.61 and was down by 83.38 points or 2.22 per cent.
On Friday, the Nifty50 fell by 1.72 per cent or 302 points and closed at 17327.35 while the 30-share index closed at 58,098.92, down by 1020.80 or 1.73 per cent. In the 30-share Sensex, only three stocks ended in the green while the remaining 27 were trading in the red at the closing time. Here are the top gainers and losers.
Among other global indices, FTSE 100, DAX, Nikkei 225 and Shanghai Composite also settled in the red.
The Swedish krona fell to its lowest ever against the US dollar against the backdrop of staggering inflation and a string of domestic and international rate hikes.
The Dollar Index is hovering around 113 and is up by 1.3 per cent on Friday. The rupee slumped 30 paise to close at a fresh lifetime low of 81.09 against the US dollar on Friday, weighed down by the strong American currency overseas and risk-off sentiment among investors.
