It is less expensive than 22-carat gold. Its color is light yellow. It is stronger than 22 or 24 carats. Jewellers use the number 750 for 18 carats.

Gold with 14-carat is 58.5 per cent pure gold and the rest is a mixture of other metals. The number 585 is used for 14 carats.

How to know the purity of gold? Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) gives the certificate of purity of gold. BIS stamps on hallmarked jewellery. It also mentions the year in which the jewellery is made and the year of the hallmark and 'K' written on gold to indicate the carat of purity.
