Amid record highs in cumin price, rising incidents of theft from moving delivery vehicles
As of Monday, cumin futures have cooled off by about Rs 2,000 to Rs 40,500 per 100 kilograms from all-time highs scaled in the recent past.
A surge in cumin prices has led to cases of theft in Unjha-bound delivery trucks from Jodhpur in Rajasthan. According to a special report by Zee Business, there have been 10-12 instances of such theft in the state over the past 15 days, and the policy are scrutinising the matter.
Most of these incidents are reported on the national highway, according to witnesses.
As of Monday, cumin futures have cooled off by about Rs 2,000 to Rs 40,500 per 100 kilograms from all-time highs scaled in the recent past.
Last seen, Jeera futures (April 23) was trading at Rs 40,478.4 which was a dip of 2.78 per cent or Rs1150. The commodity is trading between the range of Rs 40,005 to Rs 40,505.
According to cumin trader Dinesh Battar, these thieves attach their pick up vans with the delivery trucks and then steal the commodity.
Traders are incurring big losses due to these incidents, as one bag of cumin contains about 50-55 kgs of the commodity worth around Rs 20,000-22,000.
