The company has announced to pay a whopping 1750 per cent dividend to its shareholders. This is the third interim dividend that Vedanta has announced to pay in the current financial year (2022-23). Vedanta in the current financial year has already paid dividends on two occasions, amounting Rs 51.

According to an exchange filing by Vedanta, it will pay 1750 per cent dividend per equity share, amounting to Rs 6,505 crore. This translates into Rs 17.50 dividend per share. It means that if an investor has 100 shares of Vedanta in his/her Demat account, the company would pay him Rs 1750 dividend.

"The board of directors of the company through a resolution passed by circulation on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 have approved third interim dividend of Rs 17.50 per equity share i.e. 1750 per cent on the face value of Re 1 per share for the financial Year 2022-23 amounting to Rs 6,505 crore," Vedanta said in a filing to BSE.

Vedanta stocks will trade ex-dividend date ahead of the record date. Usually, a stock trades ex-date a business before the record date. Accordingly, Vedanta stocks ex-dividend would be November 29.

Vedanta has fixed the record date to determine the eligibility of shareholders for receiving a dividend amount of Rs 17.50 dividend. As per the company, the record date for the purpose of payment of the dividend is November 30.

It means that Vedanta will pay Rs 17.50 dividend per share to shareholders who hold the company's stocks in his/her Demat account on the record date.

 

Vedanta Dividend History

 

Vedanta paid the first interim dividend of Rs 31.5 in the current fiscal in May. The company paid a second interim dividend of Rs 19.50 in July.

In the last financial year (2021-22), Vedanta paid Rs 45 dividend per share. In the preceding fiscal (2020-21), the company paid Rs 9.5 dividend per share. Before that (2019-20), the mining company paid Rs 3.9 dividend per share. Before that (2018-19), it had paid Rs 40.05 dividend per share.

Shares of Vedanta closed 1.60 per cent lower at Rs 311.0 on the NSE in Monday, November 28.

Brokerage firm Citi has given a Sell call on Vedanta. The firm has, however, increased its share price target to Rs 235 from Rs 215.

In the past one month, Vedanta has delivered a positive return of more than 10 per cent. YTD, the counter has tumbled 10 per cent.

Vedanta in the filing said that the interim dividend will be paid within stipulated timelines as prescribed under law.
