Shares of Tata Motors and Tata Motors DVR surged between three to five per cent on back of good sales number in December quarter. Tata Motors sold 1,99,633 units in the domestic & international market, for Quarter ended December 31, 2021 against 1,58,218 units a year ago in the same quarter.

In the process, Tata Motors also replaced Hyundai Motor India as the second-largest seller of passenger vehicles (PV) in the domestic market in December 2021.

As per the company, Tata Motors sold 35,299 units of passenger vehicles in the month, which is a 50% YoY jump compared to 23,545 units sold in the corresponding December 2020. The electric vehicle (EV) segment crossed 2,000 monthly sales landmarks for the first time in December 2021. The company sold 2,255 units of EVs in the month against 418 units sold in December 2020.

Meanwhile, EV sales also touched 10,000 units in 9MFY22 and crossed 2,000 monthly sales landmarks for the first time in December 2021 (2,255 units). Besides, the company saw the highest quarterly & monthly sales in a decade in PV. In addition, the company also posted a calendar year sale of 331178 units (CY21), the highest ever since the inception of the PV Business. Decade high quarterly and monthly sales. In addition, the commercial vehicles segment grew by 4% to 34,151 units in the reported month as against 32,869 units sold last year.  

Tata Motors shares surged nearly 3 per cent to day's high of Rs 499.70 per share on the BSE. At 11.35 am, shares were trading at Rs 496.30, up Rs 13.95 (+2.89%) on the BSE.  

Likewise, After hitting day's high of RS 251.70 per share on the BSE, shares of Tata Motors DVR were trading at RS 249.80, up Rs 10.55 or 4.41% around 11.40 am on the BSE.

Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki continues to be the top carmaker in the country with total sales of 1,53,149 units in December 2021. This was less than 1,60,226 units sold in December 2020.
