Snapping three days winning streaks, the domestic equity market ended lower on the F&O expiry day on Thursday, which also saw benchmark indices ending the FY 2022 with over 18% gains each.  Benchmarks Nifty50 and the Sensex corrected nearly 0.20% each on Thursday to settle at 17,464.75 and 58,568.51 respectively. FMCG, Private Bank stocks witnessed buying interest in a weak market, while Pharma, healthcare and PSU Bank declined the most.

"We witnessed some lackluster movement in the market and an attempt to hold above the levels of 17400. Our research suggests that sustaining above 17400 will be an important level for the market to stay positive in the short term," said Vijay Dhanotiya, Lead of Technical Research at CapitalVia Global Research Limited 

If the market sustains above the support levels, we expect the market to stay positive till the level of 17600, he said. "We have observed momentum indicators like RSI and MACD indicating positive side momentum in the market," the expert added.

On Friday, the Asian markets were trading largely negative. Japanese Nikkei 225 was down 0.9%, Hang Seng Index at the Hong Kong Exchange dropped more than 1% and Chinese Shanghai Composite was trading flat with positive bias in the early trade on Friday. 

Meanwhile, SGX Nifty Futures traded lower by more than 100 points on the Singaporean Exchange at 8 am, hinting at negative opening for the domestic equity market.  

Earlier, global stocks dropped on Thursday with U.S. shares sinking over 1.5%, as concerns about a recession and the Russian-Ukranian war spurred selling, while oil prices plunged over $6 as Washington launched a record release from its emergency oil reserves, said a Reuters report. 

A spurt of selling late in the day drove the S&P 500 down 1.6%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average also skidded 1.6%, and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 1.5%. Europe`s STOXX 600 had closed down 0.94%.
