The Indian markets on Monday started the week on a buoyant note as both Sensex and Nifty50 gained nearly a per cent. After the flat start, healthy buying in key sectors like banking, IT and auto aided a steady rise in the benchmark.

Consequently, the Nifty50 on Monday ended around the day’s high to close at 17,525 levels. The broader indices also closed with modest gains.

The domestic market on Wednesday may open flat with negative bias, as SGX Nifty slipped marginally by over 23 points or 0.13 per cent to 17,517. The global markets such as US indices had closed in the red with up to 1 per cent on Tuesday, while Asian markets are also down in the early trade on Wednesday.

Nifty has decisively surpassed the hurdle at 17,400, and now eyeing 17,800, Ajit Mishra, VP - Research, Religare Broking Ltd said in his comment. “Apart from the performance of world markets, the last leg of the earnings season coupled with key domestic data like IIP, CPI and WPI would remain on the participants’ radar for cues.”

The market analyst reiterates his preference for top-performing sectors like banking, financials, auto, FMCG and selectively from the IT pack for fresh longs.
